Very simple box you have there. Take it apart and clean everything with gas, then show a picture. Nothing worse than trying to see if something is missing in a pile of 60 year congealed grease.

I don’t know what parts are supposed to be inside, I can pull apart and take pictures for you.
I did pull apart before I purchased, but other than inspecting gears and looking for damage I’m not sure what I’m looking for.
Is there a parts diagram for the simplex? I didn’t realize there was much to shifter.

thank you

The first thing I would do is pull the controls apart to see if all the parts are there

Cables are no problem, you can get them new.  You must figure out length allowing for a lot of slack and/or a loop at the motor end.  Also the cable mounts on the motor may need to be changed as the new cables are a bit too big for the old double-U mounts.  Big mounts can also be had new if you need them.  You need to find a maria/boat supply near you that has an old guy behind the counter.   If not contact this old guy Joe Poole at www.fergusonpoolemarine.com/  he'll get you what you need but you still have to measure for cables.

Ok Gents here’s my attempt to start fresh thread under correct category “restoration”.

After looking for months for controls and key/choke assembly era correct or close these are all I could find that wasn’t going to break the bank and in satisfactory shape willing to ship to me in Canada.

Surprisingly the emblem/SS is in wonderful shape, not had time to test function of choke/key as of yet.
The throttle/shifter is in ok shape as for gear teeth and function, the paint that was splashed on hopefully I’m able to take off and replace clear plastic over red sticker as it looks crinkled it’s not damaged (just blk paint and clear plastic makes red look damaged).
140$ I was able to pay he was asking 175$.
I can now finally plan on building my last aluminum bracket for controls to mount to then it’s all etching primer preparation for most part other than a couple holes for mounting odds/ends.
The scary part is going to be finding the cables/fittings for controls as I have zero understanding or concept of what they look like or fit to function. I’m open ears and eyes to knowledge/input/pictures of this style of controls.

Anyways one step closer to boat on water I suppose. And hope I can continue this thread in restoration to keep my progress organized to share.

thx
Curtis
