1956 Vagabond ??? Will a 40 hp Yamaha 4 stroke be too much? 15 Jan 2021 00:14 #109369

Bill, an occasional poster here, had a Vagabond with a forty 2017 40 Merc. There is a video of it in action here somewhere. It works fine. You can also see it on the Feathercrat facebook page.

As for a 40hp Yamaha on Vagabond, I think that is too much.

I run a 25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke and it goes 25- 26 mph with two people and a dog.

A modern 25 is similar to a vintage 40 and lighter.

You see them on Craigslist and Facebook MP all the time. Removing any of the decks essentially destroys the boat and renders it practically worthless. As Johns says, there's plenty of other vintage boats out there that will be roomier if that's what you need.

If you are referring to the center deck, do not remove it. It is a structural part of the boat. Buy another boat that fits your needs.

Has anyone removed the center consoles (or whatever they are) in order to provide more room for people larger than was provided for in 1956? Thanks JD
