Today the lovely pistons went back home.
I tried a different method that I have been wanting to try for a little while now. Instead of trying to get all 18 rings in at once. I dropped in one piston at a time. This method is so much less stressful on me and the new rings. Tomorrow I will set the proper inch pounds of torque on the rods to lock in the crank. 1957 Clipper with a 1969 Merc 1000

I think it was a poor quality seal but it was oem, I have two more seals coming, the shaft looks perfect.

Was it on the prop shaft or the drive shaft?
Possibly check for an out of round shaft. Or try a speedy sleeve Those little sleeves are expensive. 1957 Clipper with a 1969 Merc 1000

That stinks Ray.
I just started testing, both pressure and vacuum on the lower units. Not much pressure is needed, 6-7 lbs on The 44's. How long were you trying to hold a vacuum for? 1957 Clipper with a 1969 Merc 1000

Hey Marc,
Do you check your lower units to see if they will hold a vacuum? I just did a 82 model 35 OMC that holds pressure but not vacuum, dang it. Proud Owner of 1956 Vagabond, 1950 Flyer, 1956 Rocket, Co-owner 1952 Flash, 10-1/2 less than VinTin

A little work in the shop today.Cleaned up the pistons, connecting rods and resurfaced the read cages. And spent a few hours doing non-glamorous things too.
