Marc, Who was your decal source? I've used John McIntosh before.

I painted my Merc 400 with paint from nymarine , single stage. Good results. My 78A I used paint from reprotint. Unfortunately the gentleman died, and i believe the business died as well.
I was going to use reprotint this winter for my rebuilds. But instead I think I will be using a local source with a costom color match. And my decal source is done too. Trey you need to get into making Merc decals for me. ![]() Click the link below for information on vintage Mercury restorations

I have used the spray cans from NY Marine with good results. I painted two 1957 Evinrudes with their paint and am pleased with the results. Gas getting on the paint has not affected the paint. However, I do believe you can get better results using a spray gun if you know what you are doing.

My thought is the rattle cans are probably not fuel resistant or "as" fuel resistant. I've never used his. Others have.

Looking at painting the '57 Evinrude 35. Wondering what experience any of you have had with the rattle cans from nymarine.ca . . . . vs. the 1/2 pint / pint / quart spray gun approach?
I have an HVLP and could go that route . . . not trying to be cheap or short circuit the process . . . but are the rattle cans worth using? If gun paint - acrylic or urethane enamel? I am lifting the power head to replace the base gasket so will disassemble the cowl / lower unit etc. to paint in smaller pieces. |
