Gale Buccaneer 25hp seized or stuck?? 18 Jul 2020 15:00 #106251

Not good. Only a few drops of rusty water came out of the drain plug on the lower unit. I'm too old for this.... Or not hahaha... It's a sickness that I have. Bringing old stuff back to life.
I'm going to put a 15hp 4stroke on the boat for now. Sacrilege,I'm sure. lol Thank you for the input.

Drop the lower unit, it will tell you where the problem is top or bottom.

Thanks. That is where I was going next.. The shifter moves freely but the prop spins freely no matter what position it's in. I'm going down there next/

Your lower gear case could be rusted up. Drain it and see what comes out.

Gale Buccaneer 25hp seized or stuck?? 16 Jul 2020 13:00 #106200

I recently acquired a 1958 Feathercraft and 25hp Gale Buccaneer outboard motor. My buddy passed away from cancer and gave them to me before he passed. The motor seems to be stuck.in gear. The shift handle moves freely,as does the throttle and linkage. I've pulled the plugs and poured Marvel mystery oil and sea foam into the cylinders . I removed the pull cord handle to free the rope. The flywheel only moves about an inch in either direction and the pistons are moving the same. I believe that there is some shifter safety that is stuck. But have no idea where to start next. I could be totally wrong.. But I'm limited in my knowledge of this old motor. Any Ideas what I'm up against?? I didn't want to pull the recoil housing off yet. I fear springs letting go..LOL I'm open to any advice. Thanks, Will
