The Merc might refuse to drink the Evinrude oil ![]() I may be looking for new oil with Evinrude shutting down. I think any synthetic or synthetic blend is OK, if you run high RPMs much (or maybe at all) more oil is better. I run 25:1 synthetic blend in everything because I run everything without mercy

I was thinking of running another tank of 30:1 through her before getting too throttle happy. With 24:1 how often are you fouling plugs ? All my chainsaws even the old 1960's ones I run synthetic 40:1 without issues. I'm sure the mixture debate has been gone over many times on this board.

Moe, on my 400 I have been running 24:1 for 2-1/2 seasons now, Even my break in period. I never hammered down for two tanks or so. I think after running up and down from slow to 3/4 throttle for about 10 hours I then gave her hell. ![]() Hope this helps Click the link below for information on vintage Mercury restorations

The cattle tank I found on Craigslist for $45, 118 gallon I think. It's nice as I can just run it in the driveway.
What is your break in procedure ? I read the service manual which says 2 hours heavy mixture at varying and half throttle max and then no extended full throttle running for another X number of hours. Always curious what other people do though. |

I like it,
Right now I do not use a test tank. On the up and coming 78A, I will just go down to the ramp and do boating right on the trailer. Click the link below for information on vintage Mercury restorations

Marc, what are you using for a test tank? I'm thinking of using a sheet of plywood over the top of my cattle tank with a short deflector angled down. Here's my fancy napkin drawing . . . .
