Larry, I bet you learned a lot tinkering on that old gal too. I think this is some good prep work for you till you find that Merc 700 you need.

if you need to run it longer just attach garden hose to water tube and turn on tap a 1/4 turn

On advice of council, Joe Poole, I redid the fuel lines to avoid the starter hot band. Now there is no contact anywhere. There is no lower unit on. I didnt bother with water as she only had fuel in the line and bowls and only ran a few seconds, barely warm. I did rev her up and it scared the crap out of me, so I shut it down and said that's enought for now. I need to clean and lube the throttle bits so it moves easier. Then its onto the bottom end.

Space Balls, good one for many one liners. I tried to show it to my kids, they did not appreciate it at all, sad.

I'm just going to spin it over and see which port sucks and which blows!

Chip, this is exactly why I was double checking. I hope the book is right but sometimes the technical draftsmen get things messed up just as do owners.

First VW I tuned up, Clymer manual showed the distributor coming down from the TOP of the engine, mine was from the bottom...after much debate, I called a friend-he told me the repair manual picture was UPSIDE DOWN.......
