Some post just two pictures: before and after. Myself like to show all the strugles I am going trough in a motor that I am not familiar with - just to get a feedback and make sure that I am doing it right.

Non-shifting lower units are pretty simple. They only look complicated. They are also easier to keep sealed tight.

Actually I am very happy with this Mercury - if I knew what I was doing this would be done in a day. Everything coming apart very well and I am impressed with the design - much more service friendly than my 5.5 Johnson SeaHorse

went to auto mechanic...he had seal puller.......didn't work

but he give me an idea: cut the metal seal in two spots, fold it and get it out....

......and that's what I did.....scarred the surface in two spots, but not all the way down, so the new seal should work fine.......now need round .835 diameter pin to press the seal in the housing...would be good to have a bench press too :)

Wayne, flushing out the salt water from the motor - I have been thinking about that , wandering if there is a solution to mix with water - have Atomic 4 that will be getting sea trials this summer as well, so I am very interested in finding some product that can be use to flush the salt out of the motors.......I am finding out that ocean water is really nasty stuff
