It’s sort of a copy of the one OMC used on the 1980 35 that was the midsection donor, just a little bigger cross section.

So, with all the talk about speed I bumped this back up after years of it being lost in the weeds.
Frankie has run three years now, most of that time at high RPM's. The current speed I have reached with it on my 1950 Flyer is 52 MPH on GPS at 7,500 RPM. I'm going to be looking for another prop, I had the one on it now re-pitched already but tweaked a few more MPH out of the boat since then and would like to get it down to under 7,000, and get some more MPH out of it. Stay tuned ![]() Proud Owner of 1956 Vagabond, 1950 Flyer, 1956 Rocket, Co-owner 1952 Flash, 10-1/2 less than VinTin

Ray, I should have known that you already knew what the result would be generally! I don't know squat about the lower units, ... that sounds good too me with the torque not being a problem! I read the whole thread, your drive shaft looks really good, should hold up! You truly have what no one else has, and everyone wants and would give their left nut for! Provided they aren't using it ... ??!!
About Arrowhead, I have a acquired a pinched nerve in my neck somehow and have lost the use of my right arm for doing anything to the boat. I was able to re-polish the Vagabond, but when I went to get up in the a.m. to start the assembly of the rest of the boat, I had a pain in my neck and my right arm that was debilitating. Been going to the chiropractor for months. It's a little better, but thats all! Now that we have the 120 degree heat, if my arm wasn't bad, I still wouldn't be able to finish the boat. So I'm really bummed out about not being able bring my Vagabond back to Louisville and party with all of you guys! Last October was the most enjoyable time of 2016 for me, I'm serious, it was just a total blast to meet everyone and everybody was so nice, I couldn't believe it. It was extremely nice of you to let me have a ride in your Vagabond too. I thought about taking a flight out to TN., but then I'd just be a tag-along again, and I don't want to be a pain in the arse to anyone. So I just have to wait till next year and hope the problem with my arm and shoulder subsides! What a bummer. I don't do operations! I'll be with all of you guys in spirit in September you can believe that! Congrats on your hybrid motor, that is going to be just too much fun ... ! |

Hi Thom,
I have no doubt the lower unit will take the load, the gears and bearings in the 35 OMC foot are much beefier than the gears, shafts, and bearings in the racing lower units, I'm sure there's no problem there. I don't plan on abusing things but I have done quite a few full throttle pulls already, my only concern is my shortened driveshaft, you can look back through the thread to see the modification to the shaft. I will be changing the lower unit oil after a few more hours and will take the whole thing apart this winter to see how everything looks. Are you coming over for Arrowhead in Sept? Ray, ... my question is, will the top end over-power the bottom end, at top speed?
Will the bottom end withstand the torque? Or are you going to be "gentle" with the throttle ![]() |

Same as 35 cause R's maxed bigger wheel needed. .
Just getting used to the lay of this land. |

Spell check on smart phones. The question was meant to read; What was your MPH with the new motor?

NO! You cannot end a sentence with a preposition. He really meant to write "The new motor was not with your what?" ![]()
