Check the gasket part #'s for both on marineengine.com..

It looks like the 40hp Lark wasn't introduced until 1960.

1960 40hp exhaust tube/swivel bracket parts

1959 35hp exhaust tube/swivel bracket parts

1961 40hp uses the same part #3 as the 2 above:
OMC part # 0310137

I wonder if the 40hp block would fit in a 1959 35hp Super Seahorse motor?

For $50.00 bucks the electrical harness alone if in good shape is worth the money. The control shifters and starter solenoid box would be worth the money as well
