Yeah, I was thinking about that. I see that a Vagabond sold new in 1954 for about $500. How much to you think the same boat would sell for new today? Maybe $7500? So an increase of 15x for inflation in 60 years.

This guy seems to be aiming for 80x the original price. So he's off by a factor of 5 or 6...

I also think it's kind of funny that he says "...In all my years of collecting, I've never seen one of these", followed by "It's a must-have item for anyone with an old Mercury." Seems a bit of a contradiction...

I believe it's to catch oil drippings from the motor.

With the drain tube out the back it looks like it is to catch water and let it drain back out of the boat.
