I would think about pulling the motor off.
I made a stand out of a $50 2 wheel hand truck.

You guys have talked me out of it. I can do it outside, under my deck, when it isn't too cold.

Thanks, Ray. Respirators appear to be effective but there is going to be a lot of dust in the air that I'm afraid is going to migrate upstairs. I could keep the doors open while I'm polishing and run a large fan to blow it outside.

Pull the motor off flip the boat up on it's side on furniture movers aka small wooden square with casters and roll it in but if you polish it indoors your wife is going hurt you bad the black stuff you produce you will wish you hadn't plus aluminum fines are extremely flammable and sanding aluminum produces lots of fines

Good point. I've got a resperator but there is going to be a lot of dust that could pose a problem. The basement is fairly large with ten foot ceilings but I'm afraid the dust is going to make it upstairs. Aluminum dust is unhealthy. The forced hot air furnace has a filter of course, but I'm afraid it will spew the dust throughout the house. The maker of one video pointed out that there was a study linking the dust with Alzheimer's disease. He added without apparently being aware of the irony, "I can't remember the details."

Definitely track down your personal safety equipment, may want to look at getting a good exhaust fan? Drop cloths and such…dusty heaven..

I want to polish it. The winters are long in upstate New York. I'll have a lot of time to do it. I've never done it before. I've got the equipment I need and have seen several videos. I just love the look of polished aluminum. Thanks for the suggestions, Ray and Scoot.

Take the motor off, put the handles back on the transom and get four people. Put a bar through the bow handle for the front two carriers to use and the back two should be fine.
What are you going to do once it's in there? A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.
