I came to Arrowhead Thursday. Larry, The Art Doctor I think?, showed me your boats and answered a bunch of questions. It was great! I have disassembled my trailer and I am going to get the parts sandblasted. I have bearings and bushings for the trailer ordered. I'm aiming to be on the water by spring. I suppose I should start a restoration thread, -Joe
If you go to Arrowhead you will probably see Tohatsu and Suzuki on a few Vagabonds there. I have a 2015 Suzuki DF25ARS on my 1955 Deluxe Runabout, and I've been happy with it. When I bought mine, they offered it with or without Power Tilt/Trim. I got mine without, which saves about 20# weight. I believe Suzuki now offers only the PTT version in the U.S.. And as you've seen, they only offer the 30HP in a long shaft version, which is unfortunate.
I bought my motor at
, located in TN. Was happy dealing with them. I also surface-mounted a digital display on the dash of my DR to display speed, RPM, fuel used/remaining, and MPG. Nice to have.
So far, I have researched Tohatsu 30HP, Suzuki 25HP, and Yamaha 25HP. These have 15" shaft. The cost appears about the same for each, the Tohatsu and Suzuki have 3 cylinders, which I like. The Tohatsu weighs more but has more power. I have a Suzuki motorcycle, and it has an awesome engine. I would like some recommendations.
Thank you for the welcoming response! My boat came with a seized motor, and I am not inclined to work on it. It is a Johnson Model 35EL77C, I think it is a 1977 35HP. I'll trade it for something, maybe one of those Feathercraft pennants for my boat.

Congrats on your new boat. FYI the typical daily routine at Arrowhead is for a group of boats to leave around 10 AM for a cruise somewhere on the lake. Typical return time might be around 3 PM, depending on where they go. So if you want to see and talk boats, it would be prudent to arrive around 8:30-9 AM - before everyone leaves - or arrive in the afternoon. In between you're likely to find a lot of empty slips and a few losers hanging around the place chatting up the staff. (This loser isn't even going to be there next week.)
Congratulations and good luck. I look forward to meeting you at Arrowhead.
Also, if its not too much to ask, please tell us when you begin looking for your next FC.
We all know that it's just a matter of time.
