OMC seal puller needed 07 Aug 2020 01:53 #106633

Well Dano, I've been procrastinating about pulling the old seal. I'm HOPING and planning on pulling it this weekend using a a couple of sheet metal screws and a slide hammer or prying device. Fwiw, any and all boat related time has been put into my Vagabond II project which is sooooo very close to being ready for a lake test. Thanks for asking and stay tuned. ;)

Al how are you doing on your motor?

Inquiring minds want to know.

After looking at a bunch of pics of each year last night, I totally agree with you, Dan, that it's a '59.
Thanks for everything.

Al after you get the old seal out a 1" pvc coupling has the perfect ID to tap the new seal into place.

LOL!

I'm pretty sure that your motor is a 1959 35 hp.

Good catch, John, as usual. I meant to type 35 hp not 40.
As for Dan's comment, witty as ever. ;). I'm going to see if O'Reilly Auto has a loaner seal puller that'll work. If not, I'll go with the drywall or sheet metal screw method.
Thanks for the responses. Really.

I saw that motor today.

It is a 'one of'.

Kinda like Al.

Al you don't need a seal puller.

Punch some small holes in it and insert drywall screws and just pull it out.

I discovered today that the top crank seal on my '57 Evinrude 40 is leaking. :( I figured I'd find the necessary seal puller OMC p/n 387780 on eBay but no such luck. So, does anyone have the seal puller I need? If so, can I borrow it? PM me and we'll determine the best path forward. Thanks!
