It might be that the different transoms can use different HP motors.

Of course I am just kidding. It is interesting seeing various hp ratings for the same hull. We rarely if ever see a Clipper on the water although they are fine looking ships and should be quite sea worthy. If the one I have sitting in the yard were a 20 inch transom I'd be thinking about getting my 280 pound 135 hp 1976 Johnson running.

I thought maybe you were mistaken when you said that there was a mistake in the catalogs and that no Clippers had 100 hp rating stickers. Looks like you are caught in a lie. :)

That's interesting Dan. My Clipper was built in April of 1957 and the sticker says 80 HP. My serial number is CL 4 260 57B.

Here is a photo of a label showing a Clipper rated at 100 hp. It varied in the catalogs.



And a Clipper with dual 1958 35 hp Johnson Super Sea Horses.

I was disappointed with a top speed of only 31 MPH. I think with some tweaking I can do better. I only had it out once and for a very short time due to a serious leak up near the bow.
