hey Steve.....just paint over it, it will be fine....:hand:

i have used degreaser in the spray can with a long straw, paint thinner in a spray bottle set on stream or in hvlp gun, with an assortment of long handled, stiff bristled, artist brushes, tooth brushes, compressed air with a foot long flex tubing attached to the end of my air nozzle.......all are messy, and done with what ever means works to get er off..........i have a tupperware tub (24Lx16Wx10H) that fits perfect under the motor stand with the lid on it and a 1 1/2" hole drilled out in the center, it catches all the drippings coming off the mid section as i wash and scrub it down....i have some old wire shelving i lay over top to wash any other parts........

Neil,

What do you use to clean the caked on dried out grease off of the motor where it pivots?

Hi Trey........i like to do it before the final seal.........i put the two halves together with a couple spare bolts, and 2 long bolts threaded into the oil fill/overflow holes and use them as handles.........i made a cut out of cardboard the size of the prop seal housing and sandwich it in ....i also like to make sure the intake screen is good and clean, i use a fine brass brush and scrub it good, then mask off the screen....ready to go......your buck board will be great for spraying all the top surfaces first, then flip it over upside down to finish..... i prefer to spray before asembly because, less chance of oily residue contaminating your painting surface.....

Neil, what's your procedure for painting up a lower unit? Do you put it all together and seal it up then paint, or do you clean up the parts individually, then mask the mating surfaces and threaded bits and paint?

No problem... I'm kind of a 'bomb tosser' sometimes :)

I need to use some quick disconnects too. I have some similar to the ones you found, only they're a bulkhead style. One pair is male-female, the other is female-male, so when both are mounted you can't connect them up wrong. If yours is a 2 line system and that'd help, you're welcome to them. I'm probably going to use this type:
