The lettering is integrated with the chrome. its all one piece so a masking or rubbing operation will be required.

I'd say stick to wood work, my cobby friend, BUT I have seen your paint skills.
Keep going....B)

i use the cheap green painters tape, i tried the 3M, didn't find a huge difference....i do all my edging first with 1/4", flexes around radiuses real nice, then i mask off of it, trying to keep minimum tape touching the finish.........

and on a not so nice note.......i can not express my feelings on here, for the choice of words would have me banned for life.......even the missus is steering clear of me today........
i know what happened, i thought i had sanded down far enough, but there was some residue of some of the first clear coat i used to seal the first coat........respraying activated it and lifted the new coat of bronze...........crap happens.....
going out to uncover Oscar, to put a smile on my face...... i will deal with the cowl issue another day

This is what I'm using. Works really well. I clean up the excess pretty much as Jabe suggests.

interesting........not having it in my hands i can only speculate on a approach....
is the text removeable, or is it part of the casting..........my thoughts are if its removable, you can just mask off that section, spray it, let it set up, then rub off the chrome ribs with the end of a paint stick wrapped tight with papertowel wet with paint thinner, something wide enough to span a couple ribs at a time to keep on the level, Rick mentioned earlier he uses a rubber squeegie first to wipe off most of the paint when its still fresh, to make the clean up easier later......definatly something i will be trying in the future..........cheers

Hey Neal,

How do you paint the Red and Chrome panel on this kind of cowl?

Is it masking operation or do you paint and then rub the paint off the chrome?

Looks great Neil.
I would say you have the beer timing dialed in about right. However, keep experimenting.:)

now back too where i was......repainted both colors....i was disapointed with the edging, no way to fix them other than repainting, and rough, crocadillians have smoother skin......(exaturating a tad maybe).....sooooo...........what i think happened.......1-i think i waited too long to pull the masking, 4 beers is too long, pulled it after 2............2-i sprayed last weekend during that ice storm, the shop may have been 70 degrees, off and on, the paint was warmed up......the shell was cold, ..
so today i heated the shell before spraying (pic below) and pulled the masking after 1/2 hr waiting..........both actions created a better result i can live with........phew
still has a bit of orange peeling, but not near what i had before.......today i am blaming the paint, just wont lay smooth........cheers
