In Dante's backyard
I was able to purchase a 55 Vagabond this summer. This would be my 4th (all gone but this one) This one is special. It was 20 minutes from me and is the first Feather Craft I ever saw. (about 15 years ago) I saw it just as pictured. It belonged to a dear friend of my Dad. A Model A Ford buddy. He also became a great friend to me. His name was Dante, a true NC mountain boy who spent his life cutting and setting grave stones. He was good at it and did well. His place was like a museum. He had owned over 150 cars in his lifetime. He paid an "ole boy" $100 f or the FC 20 years ago. Dante never got around to finishing the Vagabond. Only boat he ever had.
Dante died quickly of cancer last winter. I went to see his widow this spring and we visited for 2 hours. She is as wonderful a person as he is/was. She asked me to help her sell the Vagabond. I thought about it, I did not want anymore boats, and then I told her I would love to buy it myself.
So here he is. Per my wife's suggestion, I will restore him and call him "Dante" in the Flying Boatman" style of naming boats. Trey I need some decals my friend.
PS. The Jetstreak is for sale....I need the space !
