That's a great video of the John Hacker designed Thunderbird. That boat is an icon in the mahogany boat circles. The operator must have known what he was doing but I thought he brought it into the boat house fast. Too fast for me any way!!

I no longer have the boat or videos of it, just a couple still photos of it in operation. It was way before the cell phone era that I had it out and about. It ran great in choppy water.

Below is a video of one just like it...

I still have the plans, maybe I could build a riveted version of this boat.

Very cool Steve.

I hope we see a Feather Craft of foils in the next five years.

The Wet Bike was made by Kawasaki, heir 1st venture into PWCs. Although similar appearing, they were quite different. They were jet powered vs prop and weren't true hydrofoils. I remember comparing my Dynafoil with one in person. The bottom of the Wet Bike looked like a shovel vs a strut with movable wings on the Dynafoil. Also, unlike the DF, the WB would slide out in hard turns.
I think the DF didn't succeed in the market because of their hefty price tag and insanely small dealership network. I visited the company HQ in Huntington Beach, IIRC. It was a very small operation. Too bad.

It was very cool and rock solid at speed. No high speed shakes at all. Really an interesting ride. As would be expected, rough water wouldn't have the slightest affect upon it. The other thing I really liked about it was well it performed in turns. I can still remember throwing it in to a turn while at WOT. The "wings" wouldn't/couldn't slide out from under you so you'd find yourself changing direction in an incredibly short amount of space. If you kept the throttle twisted all the way open during such a maneuver, the engine would keep revving while the prop was trying to hook up. Then, once it did, a quick yank on the handlebars would bring the front strut out of the water and you could ride the equivalent of a wheelie for a decent distance before it came back down. A real blast!

That one reminded me of the Dynafoil I had for a few yrs when I lived in CA. An incredible PWC that was ahead of its time when introduced in the '70's. Too bad it never caught on.
