That weld looks like when I tried to use those aluminum sticks with a torch that were advertised many years ago. Well it sounded like a good idea! Never did get anything more than what looks like aluminum gum bubbled onto something,......or a hole with that stuff around it! looks like a good job for a grinder and a TIG now. That boat looks like a fantastic winter project for you Dan. Wish I lived closer to see it come along.

Yes, that is a very poor attempt at welding aluminum.

Lucky they stopped and did no damage to the bottom of the hull.

This is a job for a pro and I know a couple.

But no work will be done until Locomotion advises what course to follow.

Here's a few more photos, some showing the structural damage that needs repairing. The center beam is composed of two pieces of channel aluminum riveted together.

I can see it might be OK with a Fire Fly or a Flash but the Flyer is too big to steer with body English and it's a blast to be able to change directions in about a boats length. The catalog nails it "Hairpin Turning"

Photo of fabricated skeg, cutout in trailer right below skeg.
I built two and built the interior brackets to be fixed into place. The bolts holding the skeg on thread into the interior bracket. If I damage one I can just unscrew it and put on the other.

Have you bought a rivet gun yet B)

Minor modifications, a few hours with a cutting torch and a welder and you're ready to go!
