Mark,
That motor is beautiful. Your work is outstanding. I'm glad to hear that the compression was so good. I think the highest compression I have recorded on any of my 50s Evinrude's has been around 125 psi. I should have kept that motor. On second thought, if I had kept it, it would still be hanging on the same motor stand in the basement with no progress being done. I have been too busy with motorcycle restoration. Thanks for sharing those pictures. John

Hey Marc,
Another great job! I've got questions ![]() Did you restore the original face plate or find a replacement? Who did you get to do the chrome? What is the next project? A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

Jeff will certainly like his new Merc. Good luck with the new homestead Jeff.
On another topic,... boatboy I think you would like to see a picture of your old OMC. The most prettiest OMC ever built.... This motor will be leaving my shop today and will be going on a 1956 FC Ranger. The motor ended up having 150lbs of compression on both cylinders. She runs as good as she looks, all the chrome was redone too, I literally could shave by looking at the chrome trim.

Ray, it will indeed be a big change. That warm winter is so nice, but I have already been enjoying the cool spring temps. I could never stand the hot, hot Summers of TX, and winter snows are months away.
I got my engine from Mark and it and the Vagabond made it safely to MA. I'm searching for a trailer to her off the lawn and hope to start back in on floors and reassembly soon. Yes there are several lakes in the area to put her in. Nothing as large as Watts Bar, but bigh enough to stretch the Mercs legs and cruise.

That’s going to be quite a weather change, seven years will get you acclimated to the short winters.
Do you have a good place to run that brand new Merc? A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

Yes. It was a good 7 years, but it's time to head home. Returning to New England, far wester MA. I'll be at Mercury Marc's tomorrow collecting my Thunderbolt.
