This is a link to Hydroracer and a page of racing photos from the mid fifties, there is only one Feather Craft about halfway down the page but there are a ton of great photos of mostly NOA competition a lot from Kingston Tennessee and the Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio area.

I believe I would put two shifter handles so they would be the same height just change the black knob on throttle to a red knob

Yes the throttle and shift levers are definitely not safe that way  and the knobs should be facing you. Basic from what I can see take it apart and put the cables in the other end and it will all be facing the right direction

When docking the boat it could get dangerous. When docking, you usually  shift between forward and reverse, once or twice, or even more if you missed the first time. I could easily see a cuff of a jacket getting cought on the throttle when working the shifter.

It's easy to flip the order of those two levers in the vintage OMC control boxes.

Cheers,

Dan that’s scary my navigator is almost 10yrs old.. but honestly she spent as much time behind wheel as I did last summer/winter!

Marc something to think about!

There is a bit of resistance on both to use so unless there’s a ruckus in the boat they might not move too easily. I don’t shift a lot but the possibility is definitely there. You all know I’m a rookie and first boat owner so I may have overlooked because I installed the way I found them assembled and went with comfort. I tend to kneel sitting up so I’m further away as well with being located on far side of consul I’m further from handles which it makes it nice having it longer closer to me..

interested to hear thoughts..

Someone correct me if I am wrong please. and I am only bringing this up because it could be a safety concern. But I think I would want my tall lever on the far outside and the shorter one closer to me. This way the tall throttle lever would never accidentally get hit when trying to shift gears.  Just something I noticed....

The navigator handles those functions in such a race boat.
