Nice!! Probably no one who hasn't read this thread would ever suspect that it's not the original one.

Etching texture success
So first I painted the Feathercraft texture on the dash by hand. I first tried to create a repeating pattern on the computer but wasn’t happy with it, so I went this route. I probably have 14 hours in drawing it by hand.

Then I  =19.5pxbuilt a bath for the acid and taped the rest of the dash that I didn’t want to etch.

Then it was just a question of acid etching the plate for about 10 minutes. Next time (if there ever is a next time) I think I’ll just do 8 minutes to make the etch slightly shallower.

Overall I think it will look pretty authentic.

Mix is on it's way.  You should see it in a couple days.

I'll mess with the image some and see how it looks if I laser it out of some template material. I haven't had much luck getting it to tile gracefully yet, but we can tackle that if the stencil idea works out.

Yeah, Rick, I’ll need more supplies. The Azek board idea is a good idea. I was going to use clay around the panel on my bench but I think that will work better.

To create the repeating pattern I’d have to scan a much larger section of an existing panel because what I have now does not look up to snuff.

It's very gratifying to run across someone who's as obsessive as I am about this stuff. :)

Seriously though, do you need more 'instant etch'? When I had a bigger piece to do that wouldn't fit in any of my containers I build a 'pool' out of Azek with silicone sealed joints. So, did you give up on the tiled image?

So if you are one of those guys that like to drill lots of holes in your Feathercraft this is what you’ll be doing in hell. You will be painting the ice frost texture by hard for the next owner so he can recreate your mess!

Al jokes aside, I’ll paint the resist on the other side tomorrow and will hopefully etch the texture on the new dash tomorrow night. This was a doozy.

Thought I’d share what I’m doing to treat the edge with the transom addition. I used West Syetes G-flex with aluminum powder, 406 filler and some cotton flox (for strength) to fill the gap and to make it look a little like what the factory did with their seam sealer. Between the new an old transom I used a thin layer of 3M 5200 and riveted them together.

Ray, you can also see the start of the filler (not done yet) I’m doing to the bottom edge of the transom like you suggested.
