Thanks Ray! I’ll hold off until I do that.

I wouldn’t trim it until you have run it at full throttle, they need more trim at full throttle and they perform best at full throttle just below the point where they porpoise.

Congratulations on the maiden voyage and a trusty hull! I am going to predict top speed once dialed in will be about 35-37mph.  What RPM's are you turning with what prop? The pistol grig control is so comfortable to use.

Hey Marc, I have not used full throttle yet, but it looks like I could quite easily go 5000rpms. I may also see if I need to trim the motor so the nose runs a bit lower.

First voyage went very well!
I had a lot of reservations about my setup and was worried that the motor would be too much for the boat, but I am happy to report that it was amazing! I get on step almost immediately. I have zero porpoising and everything felt super smooth. I guess all the work getting the bottom flat paid off. With the reinforcing I did on the transom I felt very little flex.

I still have some tuning to do on the motor and control setup but I am a happy camper now.

Anyway here are some pictures and a quick video:

Now we're talking! That's  how an outboard should sound like. Nice job Jaques.
I found it much more easy by tying the boat tight to the dock to warm up the motor. Or hooking it up to the garden hose before heading to the dock.

I think that distributor was way ahead of its time, it's part of Marine history.
the only easy thing about that motor is the foot.

So after a longgg process of completely rebuilding my ignition system (waiting on Jesse Anderson mostly), I finally got to run the motor on all six cylinders.

I replaced the flowing: Plug wires, resitors, distributor shaft, points, distributor felt lube devices, rotor, distributor cap, distributor brushes and springs, roll pins, bearings and gaskets. Phew!

I still need to set my idle mixture in the water as evidenced by all the smoke, but al least it’s firing on all six!

Yeah, it is a ton of work to get the carbs off! Jesse Anderson (local Mercury old-timer) said the motor runs better with the Mercury Mark 75A fixed jet carbs, so I went that way. I got a set of Tillotson AJ54A’s and completely rebuilt them and installed new old stock .055 jets. I’m not worried about historically correct since my motor is a restomod.

My spark issues are resolved. I set my timing myself, but I am not tally sure that my timing plate is the correct one. So I gave Jesse my distributor to adjust the timing on his timing machine. He has an old Allen Syncrograph which is a lot more precise for setting the points. They used this on race boats to dial the timing in.  I’ve been waiting on him for 3x weeks to do it. Hopefully he will get it done soon.
