I think it is more that you lose a lot of arrowheads feeding a population for 4,000 years.

That combined with the damming of the river causing soil erosion along ancient stream banks that had been covered with soil and lush vegetation for millennia.

I was digging a vegetable garden bed about ten years ago and found this quartz Indian pounding stone about 2 feet deep in the ground. It is smaller than a tennis ball and a larger than an extra large chicken egg.

Dan. In south georgia we call that a round rock.............:shhh:

Loco! I recollect one very late night on Terry and Nat's cabin porch last Fall when Dan and Rob engaged in drunken heated debate for a solid 30 minutes regarding the topic of harvesting arrowheads. Lawd don't bring that up again! I thought Boatboy and I were gonna lose our minds trying to understand what all the fuss was about. I think we had to bring out the water hose.

Settlements were everywhere before the white man came over the mountains so the artifacts are everywhere not just at the waters edge, there are laws now about "Harvesting" artifacts, I don't know what the laws are, nor do I want to know. You not only had to be able to make the point but you had to be able to make the arrow and the bow, then track, kill and dress the animal and get it back to the settlement to consume.

Looking at the number of partial arrowheads that I found on that long shallow point between Kellog Creek and the Victoria Marina at lake Allatoona, I figured that it must have been the location of a settlement where there was an abundance of the materials needed for fabricating the arrowheads. When someone broke one while working on it, he just gave it a toss.

Frustration throughout the ages........ universal.
